After the fire and explosion in the "Surmalu" shopping center, the fire was isolated within 49 hours, and after 53 hours, the fire was extinguished, and cooling works were carried out from time to time. MES press spokesman Hayk Kostanyan announced this during a conversation with journalists.
According to him, 26 citizens were pulled out of the rubbles during this time, 16 of them died, and 10 lives were saved.
"The search operations have been stopped, determined by where the explosion allegedly took place. We have a more dangerous picture in that section. The risk of collapse is greater there, so the headquarters decided to stop the search operation at night and resume it in the morning," said Kostanyan.
The Ministry of ES spokesperson noted that the identity of one of the 16 victims has not yet been known. A forensic medical examination was appointed to find his identity; the answer will be known within five days.
"At this moment, the entire area has been cleared; our main effort will be focused on the area of the explosion in the morning. Duty will be set; fire engines are on the spot, as you can see," said Kostanyan.
