In December 1968, three Apollo 8 astronauts landed the first man on the Moon, at a time when the world was filled with war and crisis. The mission became a symbol of hope, and the photograph “Earthrise” depicted Earth, fragile and united, in the darkness of space. The words that rang out from lunar orbit on Christmas Eve went down in history as “a lunar Christmas.”
