The MAVEN spacecraft, which has been orbiting Mars for more than a decade, has suddenly gone silent. NASA has confirmed it lost contact with the spacecraft and is taking steps to restore it.
According to the report, MAVEN was operating normally until it was supposed to pass the far side of Mars. However, when it returned to view, there was no response. "Telemetry indicated that all subsystems were operating normally until it entered the Martian atmosphere," NASA said in a statement.
The spacecraft and mission teams are now investigating the cause of the malfunction. MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) was launched in 2013. After arriving at Mars in 2014, it began a world-class study of the red planet's upper atmosphere.
