Radar Armenia presents the publication of March 6, 1992, in the newspaper "Republic of Armenia" about the statements of the President of Turkey, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of the Parliament on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
Turkey wants to be active in the Karabakh issue.
Turkey should be more active in the resolution of the Karabakh issue, President Turgut Ozal stated. During a meeting at the Izmir airport, where the head of state had arrived to participate in a conference of young businessmen, he emphasized in a conversation with journalists that the Western powers are presenting "double standards" in the resolution of this issue. They acted in the same way with the Cyprus issue, Turgut Ozal noted. They are trying to present the perpetrators as victims.
In this regard, as reported by the "Anadolu" agency, the country's president specifically stated: "We cannot let this pass. We cannot leave this issue halfway. We have to act more courageously. We must demonstrate to the world that, in this matter, we cannot confront everyone with a fait accompli. I believe that it is necessary to take all necessary measures."
Prime Minister Demirel made a speech in the Mejlis.
Speaking in the Mejlis, Turkish Prime Minister Demirel noted that Turkey is seriously concerned about the ongoing clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis in Nagorno-Karabakh. He called on the international community to take the ongoing conflict seriously. He called on Western countries and the United States to abandon unilateral support for Armenia, which contributes to the inevitable outbreak of war and the emergence of a new Israeli problem. The events in Nagorno-Karabakh, in his opinion, are escalating, and it is necessary to prevent them from turning into a tragedy, for which the whole world should show interest in resolving the conflict.
The Prime Minister announced that Turkey will deliver food and medicine to the CIS countries. Every day, 160 tons of wheat, sugar, oil, and medicine will be delivered to Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan. According to Demirel, Azerbaijan will receive about one million tons of wheat.
Deputy Prime Minister Inenyu stated that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved through negotiations, based on respecting the principles of sovereignty, integrity, and inviolability of the borders of the two republics. Turkey is ready to assist in resolving the problems of Armenia and Azerbaijan peacefully, but other neighboring countries, first and foremost Russia, should also participate in this process.
The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament has appealed.
Turkey will have to show the same sensitive attitude towards the aggression against brotherly Azerbaijan as it showed during Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, said the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Husametdin Jindoruk. As reported by the Anadolu Agency, he expressed bewilderment at the position taken by international diplomacy on this issue. The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament called on the world community to condemn "the callous genocidal act of the Armenians against their Azerbaijani brothers."
The leader of the leading opposition Homeland Party, Mesut Yilmaz, who not so long ago headed the Turkish government, criticized the cabinet of S. Demirel for "limiting itself to statements regarding the mass extermination of the Azerbaijani civilian population in Karabakh." At a press conference, he spoke out in favor of the need to bring Turkish armed forces units closer to the borders of Armenia.
