Severe weather has changed Olympic tradition: the Olympic flame was not lit by sunlight at the ancient stadium in Olympia this year. Strong winds and overcast skies across western Greece forced organizers to move the ceremony indoors, to a nearby museum.
Since the sun was not visible, a backup flame was used, which was lit during a rehearsal on Monday during a brief period of clear weather. Despite the unusual start, the Olympic flame has already begun its traditional procession.
