In rural areas in southern Idlib, once on the front lines of Syria’s civil war, residents are gradually returning to their homes after a long period of displacement.
A key condition for return is the restoration of educational institutions, but nearly a year after the ouster of the former president, hundreds of schools remain destroyed or looted.
Many children remain without an education, while others attend schools in dilapidated buildings that lack basic amenities and substandard conditions.
