Carriage ride, royal reception: Macron's state visit to the UK in photos

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, are on a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom.

They were welcomed at Windsor by King Charles III and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, now known as Camilla. President Macron participated in a state carriage procession and addressed the monarch. The guests were met at the airport by Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Kate Middleton.

This is the first state visit by a French president to the United Kingdom in 16 years. The last such visit was in 2008, under President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Britain welcomed the Macrons with royal pomp, emphasizing the friendly relations between the two countries.

Mrs Macron and Princess Catherine were also in the spotlight. According to Vogue, the latter wore a French Dior suit, a British hat, and pearls belonging to Queen Elizabeth II.

Macron's gesture of kissing the princess's hand, which was actively discussed on the Internet, stood out. King Charles also made a similar gesture, welcoming Mrs. Macron.
