Pope Francis died today, April 21, at the age of 88. He was the 266th leader of the Catholic Church.
Francis's secular name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected Pope on March 13, 2013, in a conclave convened after Benedict XVI's resignation. He became the first pope from Latin America, the first from the Society of Jesus, and the first non-European in more than a millennium.
