Radar Interview

"We have no right to turn Armenia into a theater of confrontation between Russia and the West," Ara Sahakyan (VIDEO)

At the Radar Armenia booth, the "Radar Conversation" program guest is Ara Sahakyan, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of 1992-1998, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. He referred to the security issues of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and commented on the latest statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

- Should the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh be included in the peace agreement, or is it a subject of another discussion and should be negotiated entirely separately?

- I don't know. Instead, now, under these conditions, the peace agreement will not yield anything in this state. It has become an ideal fix, a slogan. A peace treaty is a non-existent thing that everyone lives by. It does not exist, waiting for Godot... He was invented, is a fiction, and has become a template and a Mormon. In this world, it is correct to work with "pauses" and not to jump ahead. We have no right to turn Armenia into a theater of confrontation between Russia and the West, to become a small Armenian factor in the bloody conflict between Russia and the West that they can throw out at any time and ask for forgiveness at the end. We must deal with the consolidation of our society by increasing the control of the government. The parliament must gather new strength and must deal with almost all issues. And it does. Gradually. The period of alienation has passed. I liked that several parliament members recently went to Gyumri concerning customs clearance of cars. It was an excellent step. I am proud. It is necessary to go to the people and understand their concerns constantly.
