During the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, to Washington, he signed a joint statement on TRIPP with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
In an interview with Radar Armenia, public figure and analyst Hovsep Khurshudyan considered the signed statement beneficial for Armenia.
"Without a significant financial investment, our country receives 24% in a company that will build serious infrastructure in our territory: railway/lines, oil pipeline, gas pipeline, fiber optic cable, and power lines."
- To what extent have the doubts that were in the public debate regarding Armenia's jurisdiction and powers within the framework of TRIPP been dispelled?
- It was proven that the TRIPP routes will be entirely under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. Armenia will receive customs entries, carry out customs and passport checks, and ensure the security of cargo transit. Moreover, Armenia's opinion will be taken into account when making decisions on sensitive issues affecting Armenia during this company's activities.
- The opposition was declaring that we are providing a corridor like this. Is there a corridor logic or not?
- It is evident that there is no corridor logic. The opposition is busy with empty talk and manipulation.
- And are there any concerns regarding this statement and its implementation?
- I do not see any reason for concern. It remains to implement it, since the construction and operation of all the mentioned infrastructures, day after day, are in Armenia's interests.
- Can we say that peace has already been established?
- No, we cannot, as long as the peace treaty is not signed, and Armenia has not positioned itself in a new geopolitical power system, such as the European Union, and better yet, in a security system, such as NATO.
