"I think it is not respectful towards the US," said Sargis Khandanyan, chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, referring to the Azerbaijani president's insistence that he would use the term "Zangezur Corridor."
"The project of the infrastructure to be created by Armenia has an obvious, internationally legitimate name, and I urge all partners to use the name TRIPP. And the logic, as the document conveys to everyone, is not corridor-like at all."
As for the statements made by Azerbaijan that they do not want to see an Armenian border guard crossing that road, how will the issue be resolved in that case, Khandanyan said: "The text clearly states that representatives of the Armenian border guard and customs service will carry out activities within their powers and will be present on the entire infrastructure." According to him, the Republic of Armenia's sovereignty over border and customs control is indisputable; this is enshrined in the statement.
"Since this is mainly part of an international transit route, its speed and efficiency are important, and in this regard, the document shows that the TRIPP development company will try to ensure the fastest and most efficient transition through the territory of Armenia, which is why the 'front office-back office' work distinction is intended."
