Direct communication between Armenia and Azerbaijan is already necessary. Meliksetyan

One of the most discussed topics in the political arena remains the unblocking of communication routes to Azerbaijan. We are discussing the restoration of both highways and railway connections.

In an interview with Radar Armenia, political scientist Samvel Meliksetyan said that Armenia had 2 main railway connections with Azerbaijan before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

“The first was the route through Meghri, Baku-Meghri-Nakhichevan, which was in operation since 1941, and since 1971, there was also another connection, the Kazakh-Ijevan railway,” the political scientist said.

According to the political scientist, the Kazakh-Ijevan railway is unique in that it was initially planned as the primary trunk line connecting Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, offering a shorter route.

He also emphasized that it is already necessary to consider practical solutions, since a direct connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan is essential and will also be necessary for the Turkey-Azerbaijan transit.
