The Azerbaijani state-run APA news agency reports that the export of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia via Georgia will begin today.
According to information received by the APA news agency, 22 railway wagons of AI-95 gasoline produced by SOCAR will be sent to Armenia today, in accordance with the agreement reached during the November 28 meeting in Gebele between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
APA writes that the export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia is purely commercial, and that gasoline will be sold at international market prices.
On December 8, the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development issued a statement noting that on December 5, Tbilisi received an application from its partners regarding the one-time transit of fuel from Azerbaijan to Armenia via Georgian territory. “By decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Railways has been instructed to immediately implement a one-time, completely free freight transportation by rail.”
According to the publication, this will also contribute to the development of economic and trade ties in the region, the expansion of relations between countries, and the building of confidence-building mechanisms aimed at peace.
