The Church must serve the Republic of Armenia. Ghevondyan (VIDEO)

Yesterday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed playing the national anthem in churches before liturgies and placing the country's flag near the church.

In an interview with Radar Armenia, political scientist Robert Ghevondyan emphasized that the primary purpose of this proposal is to enable the church to serve the Republic of Armenia, its statehood, and sovereignty.

"Armenian statehood is much more important, and all other institutions, from the government to the church, are institutions that preserve this statehood," he said, adding that playing the anthem and raising the flag can have a significant meaning for this Armenian statehood.

Regarding the allegations that they are trying to bring the church into the political arena, Ghevondyan noted that this is what the radical opposition, which has obvious pro-Russian leanings, is saying, and for them, Armenian statehood means nothing.
