Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz issued a joint statement after the meeting. The German Chancellor announced that he will visit Armenia on May 4, 2026, to participate in the European Community Summit.
He also congratulated Armenia and Azerbaijan on reaching a peace agreement.
Merz emphasized that German companies are increasing their interest in Armenia and announced that they had today signed a declaration on the strategic agenda of the bilateral partnership between Germany and Armenia.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that relations between Armenia and Germany are entering a new stage: a strategic partnership, calling his visit historic.
"Germany is one of Armenia's main partners in the EU, and we are interested in deepening mutually beneficial economic cooperation," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Pashinyan added that peace with Azerbaijan would benefit not only Armenia and Azerbaijan but also the South Caucasus and the EU.
"I hope and am convinced that we will reach the point of opening the Armenia-Turkey borders, which means a direct connection with the EU, including Germany," he noted.
