Georgia to provide one-time free transit of fuel from Azerbaijan to Armenia

The Georgian Ministry of Economy has stated in response to reports in Azerbaijani media that "tariff barriers" are hindering the rail transit of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia through Georgian territory.

"On December 5, the Georgian government received a request from partner countries regarding the one-time transit of fuel from Azerbaijan to Armenia through Georgian territory.

At the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's instruction, Georgian Railways was immediately instructed to provide one-time, free rail transportation of the specified cargo. The official parties have been informed of this decision.

Georgia has been and remains a strategic, reliable partner country of Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have always been and remain supporters of peace and cooperation in the region," the statement released by the Georgian Ministry of Economy says.

Earlier, the Azerbaijani Minister wrote that Georgia had demanded $92 per ton for transit, an excessively high price.
