The EU views TRIPP in a broader context. Kos

EU High Commissioner for Enlargement Policy Marta Koss has mentioned the possibility of EU involvement in the “Trump Road” (TRIPP) project.

According to an Armenpress correspondent, Marta Koss addressed the topic during a meeting with a group of Armenian journalists in Brussels, asking whether the European Union is considering involvement in the “Trump Road” project.

Let us recall that on August 8, Armenia, the United States, and Azerbaijan signed a declaration in Washington, one of whose points stipulates that Armenia and the United States will work together to implement the “Trump Road” (TRIPP) route on Armenian territory. The “Trump Road” project will be implemented to de-blockade communications in the South Caucasus and will also serve as a road connecting Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia. The declaration states that Armenia and the United States will jointly agree on the possibility of third parties participating in the project. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the Trump Way is an integral part of the “Crossroads of Peace” project presented by the Armenian government.

Speaking about the possible involvement of the EU in the “Trump Way” project, the EU High Commissioner for Enlargement Policy recalled that its implementation is an agreement between Armenia and the United States.

Kos stressed that the European Union is also in discussions with the United States on this issue, with a broader view of overall connectivity in mind.

“We are talking about the road from Central Asia to Europe. This (ed. refers to the “Trump Way”) is only 42 kilometers of road. It is essential for us that whatever we do, it is not only about this 42-kilometer section, but also about everything that goes east and what goes west, and that it is done simultaneously,” the EU High Commissioner said.

She reported that she had asked Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan to present a list of the most critical priorities for Armenia in ensuring this overall connectivity. “We also have our own ideas. We are also discussing these issues with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Therefore, it makes no sense for us to do this piecemeal. But in this regard, the cooperation or involvement of the United States of America is also much more important than simply building 42 kilometers of railway,” Martha Kos emphasized.
