EU to provide Armenia with 12 million euros to counter hybrid attacks

The European Union is preparing to assist Armenia in countering potential hybrid threats ahead of the country's parliamentary elections in the summer of 2026, as well as in strengthening cybersecurity.

According to an Armenpress correspondent, during a meeting with a group of Armenian journalists in Brussels, EU High Commissioner for Enlargement Policy Marta Koss stated this.

She noted the experience of Moldova, where, according to an EU official, Russia tried to interfere in the parliamentary elections through the active spread of disinformation and cyberattacks.

The EU High Commissioner announced that the European Union is ready to allocate 12 million euros to help Armenia effectively combat such hybrid attacks that may occur ahead of the elections.

She detailed that this support will enable relevant Armenian institutions to increase their capabilities to predict and respond to hybrid threats.

Kos added that the 12 million euros will not be intended solely for the Armenian government but can also be used by civil society and the media, whose roles are also critical in the effective fight against hybrid threats.

The EU High Commissioner also emphasizes the active involvement of the Armenian government in the effective fight against hybrid threats, noting that without it, achieving results is simply impossible.

In this regard, the EU Commissioner also attaches particular importance to the existence of appropriate institutions ready to mount a worthy counterattack against hybrid threats.
