Yerevan was in favor of dissolving the OSCE group after the signing of the peace treaty, a political scientist

The OSCE has completed the process of closing the Minsk Group and its related structures. This was done in accordance with the Council of Ministers' decision, based on a joint application by Armenia and Azerbaijan to the OSCE Chairmanship.

"The processes that took place before the dissolution of the Minsk Group, which took place after the famous initialing on August 8, and it is worth noting that Yerevan had previously stated that it was not in favor of dissolution until a peace treaty was signed," political scientist Hakob Badalyan told Radar Armenia, emphasizing that Yerevan was ready to sign when a peace treaty was signed.

According to him, from Azerbaijan's perspective, the existence of the Minsk Group was an obstacle, since the peaceful settlement process within the group was based on three main principles: territorial integrity, the self-determination of peoples, and the exclusion of threats or the use of force. "Azerbaijan violated these principles during the war against Artsakh, and the existence of the group created a theoretical opportunity to point out these violations constantly," the political scientist emphasized.

Reflecting on the effectiveness of the Minsk Group's activities over the years, Hakob Badalyan noted: "The group was created to resolve the Artsakh conflict, but in reality its main function was to manage the situation in the region. When the confrontation between the co-chair countries, the US, Russia, and France, deepened, the management issues were disrupted," Badalyan emphasized, saying that Azerbaijan was always dissatisfied with the group, as it limited the possibilities of resolving issues through aggression.

According to Badalyan, the existence of the Minsk Group has actually served to document Azerbaijan's aggressive actions and to act as a restrictive tool under international law. Therefore, according to him, the group's dissolution is considered a step that served Azerbaijan's political interests.
