American media reported that US President Donald Trump has presented a new 28-point draft plan to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
“In general, I confirm the idea that Ukraine will not accept it, because there are unacceptable points in it,” political scientist Armen Vardanyan said in an interview with Radar Armenia, adding, “If some changes are made, it is possible.”
On the other hand, the leader of the Democratic Alternative party, political scientist Suren Surenyants, considers it the most realistic plan. “It is obvious that the plan is the most realistic in this situation, since it takes into account the status quo created by the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Surenyants noted. He pointed out that, although resistance in the EU and the US may complicate the process, the plan provides specific maneuvering opportunities for the Ukrainian authorities.
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “additional work” is still needed to conclude the negotiations successfully, and according to political scientist Armen Vardanyan, some points need to be revised to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty. “Some points need to be changed in a way that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty; only then can Ukraine accept the package of proposals. However, in general, I think the negotiations will fail,” he emphasized.
Surenyants does not share Armen Vardanyan’s opinion, arguing that the process has already begun. “Let’s assume that the start of the process is given, but at the moment it is difficult to predict whether it will be carried out within weeks, months, or years. However, the power imbalance remains between Ukraine and Russia, so this peace will be on difficult terms for Ukraine and does not give any reason to be completely optimistic,” he emphasized.
