The issue of enclaves will be addressed at some stage of the demarcation process. Khandanyan

The demarcation process must continue, and at some stage of that process, the issue of enclaves must be addressed, stated Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly.

“After the approval of all the protocols of the demarcation process between the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan, an agreement must be signed, which must be ratified, demarcation work must take place, and then the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan will decide how to address the issue of enclaves. If, suddenly, in some scenario, it is decided that the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan will exchange territories, this issue cannot take place without a referendum; a referendum must be held on this issue,” he said.

According to Khandanyan, the demarcation committees will discuss this issue during future meetings. “This is an issue that is entirely within the scope of the committees; there is nothing political or geopolitical here.”
