President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
President Khachaturyan welcomed Dr. Floyd's visit to Armenia and highly appreciated the organization's essential activities aimed at a global ban on nuclear tests and strengthening international security. The President recalled that Armenia was among the first to join the initiative to establish the organization, and in 1996, it was also among the first to sign the treaty.
Vahagn Khachaturyan noted that our country has consistently supported the organization's goals and initiatives and expressed confidence that cooperation will continue in the same practical and constructive format.
Dr. Robert Floyd expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, emphasizing that he greatly appreciates Armenia's consistent support for the CTBTO's activities. He noted that he is happy to revisit Armenia and discuss new opportunities for expanding cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed several issues related to nuclear security and global stability.
The universal importance of banning nuclear tests and of improving their control and prevention mechanisms was also touched upon. The parties emphasized the role of such initiatives in advancing global peace, sustainable development, and regional security.
