NA Speaker Alen Simonyan has provided details of his meeting with Azerbaijani Mejlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova. He said that they had reached an agreement with Gafarova.
"There is always talk about prisoners, detained persons. That talk was not only during that meeting, but also in my public speech. I assess the meeting very positively. Parliaments should take upon themselves the logic of preparing societies, bringing them closer, living in the reality of peace, and taking steps towards each other," he said. According to Simonyan, his colleague also had that perception. "We agreed to discuss and propose a mechanism for concrete steps."
He also noted: "Peace is not only in our hearts, not only in our perception, but also in the Azerbaijani side."
Alen Simonyan did not rule out that Gafarova will visit Armenia within the framework of international formats. "Let their president come, let the head of our country go to them, I will go too. "But there are issues that we need to discuss before then. Not only security, but also the issue of our detainees. It's a little difficult for us to go there when, at the same time, you know, there are detainees."
