Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that there is no problem with the constitution in the context of the peace agreement.
“We are discussing the constitution within the framework of our internal agenda; we are not discussing the issue of amendments, because there is no need for it in the context of the peace agreement,” he said in response to questions from PACE deputies. According to the Prime Minister, they have been advocating for the need to adopt a new constitution since February 2020, and before that.
He also noted that PACE is well-versed in the stories of election result falsification in Armenia. “During that time, a constitution was adopted, constitutional referendums were held, and the public perception in Armenia is that the people never actually voted for the constitution.”
According to him, the people do not believe that the legal order was established as a result of their decision. “I see the adoption of a new constitution as the way to overcome this allergic phenomenon, where the people will vote for the new constitution by free will.”
