Armenia hopes that Turkey will not remain excluded from the process aimed at lasting peace and prosperity in the region: Foreign Ministry to Radar Armenia

“Armenia hopes that Turkey will not remain aloof from the process aimed at lasting peace and prosperity in the region, for which real and tangible opportunities have been created, especially as a result of the agreements reached in Washington,” the Foreign Ministry said in response to Radar Armenia’s written inquiry.

Radar Armenia inquired whether there were any discussions in the context of the agreements with Turkey regarding the terms of implementation of the agreements to open the borders to at least third-country citizens and holders of diplomatic passports in the near future. According to the Foreign Ministry, the dialogue on normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey continues. As is known, on August 11, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which issues of the Armenia-Turkey bilateral agenda were also discussed, in particular, the process of implementing previously reached agreements.

Regarding the question of whether, as a result of the documents and agreements signed in Washington, the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is currently being discussed before the signing of a peace treaty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the issue of establishing diplomatic relations is addressed in Article 5 of the Agreement “On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan”, which provides for the establishment of diplomatic relations after the ratification of the agreement. The initialed text of the agreement is published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the link https://www.mfa.am/hy/press-releases/2025/08/11/Initialed%20Arm-Az%20Peace%20Agreement%20text/13394.
