Armenia and Iran have agreed on the construction of a second bridge over the Araxes River

Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that the country's Minister of Road Construction, Farzaneh Sadegh, who is in Yerevan, met with Armenian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan.

During the meeting, the Iranian minister stressed the importance of the North-South and Persian Gulf-Black Sea transit corridors and called for strengthening Armenia's road, rail, and logistics infrastructure to facilitate the movement of goods.

According to the agency, Iran and Armenia have agreed on the construction of a second bridge at the Meghri-Norduz border checkpoint and the improvement of the existing bridge, the regulation of terminals, and the adjustment of truck fees.

These measures are aimed at facilitating the movement of trucks between the two countries and completing the transit package, which will be finally approved in the coming months.

The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development considered the reopening of the Julfa-Yerevan-Georgia railway an essential step in facilitating regional transit. They thought the Iranian President's visit to Armenia was a turning point in the development of Tehran-Yerevan relations in the fields of transport and logistics.

The strategic connection of the Persian Gulf with the Black Sea was also emphasized. The Iranian minister noted that the railway to Julfa already exists, and its continuation from Nakhichevan to Yerevan has been approved.

"This railway can play an important role in transit between Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Europe. Draft memorandums have also been prepared in the field of air transport, which will be signed soon," said Farzaneh Sadegh.
