“Trump will have to send a huge amount of ammunition to Ukraine to put pressure on Putin,” political scientist Armen Vardanyan said in an interview with Radar Armenia, referring to the statement of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to which good contacts and phone conversations between Putin and Trump are not yielding results, and it is time to act.
According to Vardanyan, the efforts that Trump made to sign a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine are not yielding results. “Trump also warned Zelensky that Putin has no intention of stopping the war in any way; his goal is the complete capitulation of Ukraine.”
He emphasized that after all this, Trump will most likely start arming Ukraine to a greater extent to save face, because this is also a matter of US prestige. “The West has repeatedly stated that it will not allow Ukraine to be defeated, and it will also be a strategic defeat for it if Ukraine is defeated, and they have repeatedly sent signals to Putin to stop the war.”
And does he agree with the idea that Putin has been negotiating with Trump only to stall for time? The political scientist emphasized, definitely yes. “It turns out that way, because Putin has repeatedly stated that he does not want an agreement that will not finally resolve the issue.” He added that Putin also has problems saving face in the domestic political arena. “The people will ask him questions. He said that we will enter and defeat Kiev in a week, but he has not managed to achieve all his strategic goals that he set for himself and that he was talking about.”
