Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented what started the disagreements between Armenia and the CSTO.
"When we shared our concerns with our CSTO partners that there could be an attack on Armenia, we received assurances from the CSTO that the border of Armenia is a red line for them. When we appealed, both officially and unofficially, during the September events, we received an unexpected response from them, the essence of which was that the border is unclear. It is not clear whether it falls within Armenia's territory or not. At that time, we had a question: where does the red line, about which we were given assurances, pass?"
According to Pashinyan, the government had a question: Does the CSTO not recognize Armenia's territorial integrity?
"We said, 'Can you show us where the red line passes so that we can communicate with the organization?'" But so far, we have not been shown those red lines. Our first reaction was that our CSTO partners do not recognize our territorial integrity. "The next question was, do we recognize the territorial integrity of our country? This is where the realization came that we cannot recognize the territorial integrity of our country without realizing the territorial integrity of our neighbors," the Prime Minister said.
