Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry sharply responds to Medinsky's statements

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ayhan Hajizadeh commented on the statement of Russian Presidential Assistant Vladimir Medinsky, in which he compared the occupied territories of Ukraine with Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Medinsky’s statement, which presents the Karabakh region as a disputed territory, causes regret and surprise. Surprisingly, the Russian Presidential Assistant, who is also the Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission on Historical Education of Russia, does not realize that Karabakh has never been a disputed territory. We remind you that Karabakh has historically been Azerbaijani land. Russia also recognizes Karabakh as a territory of Azerbaijan,” Hajizadeh noted.

He advised Medinsky to refrain from such statements.

“We advise Medinsky to refrain from such incorrect statements on topics outside his professional sphere not to harm interstate relations.”
