Nikol Pashinyan announced that he would initiate constitutional amendments in this case

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations at the Yerevan Dialogue international forum.

“We propose to sign a peace treaty and simultaneously apply to the OSCE on the issue of dissolving the Minsk Group structures. I think it is a constructive approach and a constructive proposal to have two documents on the table and sign them simultaneously in the same place,” he said.

The Prime Minister also discussed whether the peace treaty complies with the RA Constitution.

According to him, after signing the peace treaty, Armenia is obliged to send it to the Constitutional Court.

“From this point of view, we have two options. The first is that the Constitutional Court decides that the text of the treaty does not comply with our constitution. If such a decision is made (although our experts say that the probability is not high), we will have a very special situation in which a decision must be made. I will honestly say that in that case, I will initiate constitutional amendments. This peace process and the peace treaty should not be missed,” he stressed.

If the Constitutional Court decides that the treaty fully complies with the Constitution, there will be no obstacles to sending the document for ratification. "After ratification, this document will acquire the highest legal force in Armenia. According to Article 5, Clause 3 of the Constitution, in case of conflict between the norms of international treaties ratified by the Republic of Armenia and the laws, the norms of international treaties shall apply. The peace treaty will resolve all Azerbaijan's current concerns," the Prime Minister said.
