President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the House of Representatives of Cyprus Speaker Annita Demetriou.
Welcoming Annita Demetriou's visit to Armenia, President Khachaturyan noted that relations between the two countries' peoples are based on historical friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect. The President emphasized that Cyprus is a valuable and reliable partner for Armenia.
The President of the Republic highly appreciated the cooperation established between the parliaments of Armenia and Cyprus, especially the active contacts and mutual visits between parliamentary friendship groups and foreign relations committees.
Touching upon the opportunities available in bilateral relations, the President of the Republic noted that more active cooperation, particularly in the fields of tourism and information technologies, could become a new impetus for developing economic ties between Armenia and Cyprus. In this context, the existence of direct flights between the two countries was positively assessed.
The interlocutors attached importance to opening resident embassies in both countries to strengthen the institutional foundations of cooperation. They assessed the high existing potential for cooperation and the effective and unhindered cooperation between the two countries on international platforms.
During the meeting, the development of democratic institutions, commitment to democratic values, and the need to deepen cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture were emphasized.
The smooth course of political dialogue at various levels was positively noted, contributing to the expansion of bilateral ties. The continuous development of parliamentary diplomacy as an essential tool for bringing peoples closer together was emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, was awarded the Order of Friendship for her significant contribution to strengthening and developing friendly relations between Armenia and Cyprus.
