President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier summarized the results of their meetings in Yerevan with statements for mass media representatives and answered journalists' questions.
Statement by President Vahagn Khachaturyan:
"It is a great honor for me to host Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier today on the occasion of the first official visit of the Federal President of Germany to Armenia. Your visit to Armenia is proof of the friendship between the two peoples and the importance of Armenia-Germany cooperation.
I am glad that today, we had the opportunity to effectively discuss issues related to the current Armenian-German cooperation in various fields and outline other promising directions of cooperation.
During the meeting, we touched upon several key issues of mutual interest. We discussed the possibilities of expanding trade and economic relations between the two countries. We noted with satisfaction that Germany is one of Armenia's main trading partners, the first among the European Union countries.
We highly appreciate Germany's continued support for Armenia in promoting sustainable economic and social development in many priority areas, including education, renewable energy, and infrastructure. I also expressed gratitude for Germany's long-standing support for Armenia's democratic reforms.
We also discussed Armenia's deepening partnership with the European Union, underlining the importance of Germany's role in this context.
We touched upon several issues related to regional developments, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution of existing conflicts based on international law norms and respecting all countries' sovereignty, territorial integrity, and equality.
We highlighted the German government's consistent support of efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
I presented to my partner the work the Republic of Armenia carried out to establish stability and peace in the South Caucasus. I again highlighted the importance of unblocking regional infrastructure and the "Crossroads of Peace" project in this context."
