Alen Simonyan proposes sending the constitutions of Armenia and Azerbaijan for international examination (VIDEO)
NA Speaker Alen Simonyan announced that they are ready to discuss and understand whether the RA Constitution contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan and whether the same applies to that country's constitution.
“Ultimately, how will this issue be resolved? We say such an issue will no longer arise after passing our domestic institutions. Ultimately, we can send the constitutions of both countries for examination to find out whether these claims are consistent with reality,” he said, adding that it is always possible to find an excuse.
“Up until now, we have tried to have a justification for everything in our negotiations with Azerbaijan, and we have worked with them with that logic. I think the continuation will be logical and substantiated and not dictated for the domestic audience or by political statements,” he noted.
When asked by what mechanisms the constitution would be sent for examination, he gave an example: “We can send the constitutions of both countries to the Venice Commission and let the Venice Commission say whether such a thing exists or not.” Before that, he recalled the arguments of the Armenian side, which proved that the RA constitution does not contain territorial claims.
