Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has addressed whether EU observers will remain after the peace agreement negotiations end.
"The mandate of the EU observers clearly states the goal of contributing to stability and the peace process along the border and in the border regions," he said. According to Mirzoyan, they attach great importance to the activities of the EU civilian mission. "We even state that since their deployment, since the start of their activities, since that moment, we have not had any significant large-scale escalations; we believe that this is also partly due to their activities; we are grateful, and we appreciate it. They continue and will continue as long as it is not signed."
As for what will happen after the signing, Mirzoyan said: "When the treaty is signed, ratified, and enters into force, it will mean that peace has been established. Their function was to promote peace. If it has entered into force, peace has been established. Therefore, we need to discuss with our EU partners what changes should be made to the mandate and what other cooperation should be developed. This is just a matter of telescopic observation at the border."
