Trump considers drastic changes to US participation in NATO

US President Donald Trump is considering a radical change in Washington's participation in NATO, NBC reports, citing three current and one former senior official of the American administration as well as a congressman.

According to them, Trump is considering giving priority to the defense of alliance members who spend a certain percentage of their gross domestic product on defense.

"As part of the possible policy change, the United States may not defend another NATO member that is under attack if the country does not meet the threshold value of defense spending," writes NBC.

This will be a significant deviation from the fifth, the main article of the North Atlantic Alliance, which states that an attack on one NATO member means an attack on the entire alliance.
