Mirzoyan and Turk exchanged views on the security situation

On February 25, in Geneva, within the UN Human Rights Council session framework, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.

The meeting discussed the challenges facing the international human rights system, regional developments, and cooperation issues between Armenia and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

RA Foreign Minister Mirzoyan presented the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the RA’s approaches to its various components, and the constructive proposals presented.

In the context of a comprehensive normalization, Minister Mirzoyan noted the importance of addressing humanitarian issues, including the release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages illegally held in Azerbaijan.

In advancing reconciliation efforts, the RA Foreign Minister emphasized that the results of two missions sent to Armenia last year by the Office of the High Commissioner to collect information on the situation of Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh could have a significant contribution.

During the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan and Volker Türk exchanged views on the security situation in the South Caucasus.
