RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan addressed the steps aimed at strengthening democracy and the rule of law at the session of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee. In this context, she highlighted the importance of constitutional amendments, noting that they are currently being drafted.
"A relevant council is operating, a concept of the constitution has been developed, and we are currently working on a new text of the constitution, which, according to the commitment made, should be ready by the 2026 elections," Galyan said.
According to her, the constitution will emphasize human rights, including socio-economic rights, and include several provisions related to the order of governance and the role and place of various state bodies. She noted that the next important area is electoral reforms. "The next important step, which is envisaged within the framework of CEPA, is the approximation of our legislation to EU legislation, and steps have already been taken in this direction. During 2024, more than 30 legislative projects have already been aligned with EU legislation," she said.
