"Our task is to have the text of the new constitution before the elections." Galyan

RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan referred to the process of constitutional amendments.

"Our task is to have the text of the new constitution before the elections, and we should direct our work in that direction," she said in a briefing with journalists.

The minister called the statement that a new constitution is being written based on the statements of another country, Azerbaijan, irrelevant.

"There is no direct or indirect connection with the new text of the constitution and the statements of other countries, and there cannot be," she said.

According to the minister, the text of the existing constitution does not contain any obstacles related to the implementation of the peace process, and the Supreme Court has also said that.

Galyan also noted that the issue of having a new constitution began to be discussed after the 2018 revolution.

"For some reason, those works did not reach their logical conclusion. And I, as the new minister, think that I have to take on the duty and responsibility to draft a new constitution; the decision to approve or disapprove is up to the people because a new constitution can only be adopted through a referendum," she said.
