"The temptation is very great to immediately counter and make irrefutable, high-level public statements that there is an encouraged fascist attitude towards Armenians and Armenians in Azerbaijan, but I will refrain from that temptation and try to control myself," said Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, referring to yesterday's statements of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
He called for an assessment of why these statements were made. "Perhaps the purpose of this is that we do not avoid the temptation and come out with a tough statement in response, then they make a sharper statement, then we make a sharper one... Then there will be shootings; let's have a real escalation. I think this is not the best way to go." Instead, the minister believes there is no need to deviate from the peace agenda: "We will do everything to continue developing that agenda."
According to Mirzoyan, you cannot build peace alone but can continue constructive work in that direction.
