On December 17, a special discussion was held at the RA Embassy in the USA, dedicated to the lasting impact of the US Agency for International Development in strengthening the economic development and democratic governance of the Republic of Armenia.
The event's honorary guest was USAID Manager Samantha Power, who participated in the discussion with Ambassador Lilit Makunts. In her opening speech, Ambassador Makunts welcomed the high-ranking guests and representatives of the American community and highly appreciated USAID's contribution to the sustainable development of Armenia Power for leadership in advancing democratic values, human rights, and international development, emphasizing the Governor's commitment to issues related to the development of Armenia.
In his remarks, Governor Power reaffirmed the strong partnership between the United States and the Republic of Armenia, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation on energy security, climate change, and food security.
Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, a distinguished diplomat who was the US ambassador to Armenia from 2008 to 2011, moderated the discussion, which was followed by a question-and-answer session.
During the question-and-answer session, Ambassador Makunts mentioned that bilateral relations are anchored, first of all, on the common values of the two states. He expressed his conviction that RA and the USA have overlapping strategic interests in several issues, including peace in the South Caucasus. The ambassador also referred to the role of the Diaspora in strengthening RA-US relations.
Ambassador Makunts concluded the event by reaffirming Armenia's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United States. He expressed optimism about continued cooperation in areas of mutual interest and further strengthening those relations with the new US administration.
