The RA Ministry of Defense proposes to replace the militia system with local defense forces. Deputy Minister Arman Sargsyan presented the project to the National Assembly committee.
Sargsyan elaborated that the project specifies the local defense forces' tasks, roles, management principles, and structure.
The local defense forces will be subordinated to the corps commander and included as support units in the corps's subordinate military units.
"The local defense forces will be supplemented by persons registered in the given community who were not assigned to the wartime positions, registered in the second group of the reserve force or removed from the military registration. Replenishment will be carried out voluntarily by signing a contract, which is not considered a military service contract," he said, adding that the purpose of the proposed new system is to organize the process of preparation and involvement of citizens, which will mainly preserve the conditions defined by the law of the previously existing militia.
