On December 2, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with ICC President Tomoko Akane during his working visit to The Hague. Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the RA representative for international legal affairs; Rosario Salvatore Aitala, the first vice president of the court; and Osvaldo Zavala Giler, the secretary general, also participated in the meeting.
The interlocutors exchanged ideas on the issues of interaction between the court and RA since Armenia's accession to the International Criminal Court in February of this year. Mirzoyan emphasized Armenia's commitment to being involved in international cooperation efforts to preserve international legal norms and ensure the rule of law.
The challenges faced by the international justice system were also discussed. The strengthening of the role of independent judicial mechanisms in properly responding to global crises and contributing to peace was emphasized. The importance of cooperative efforts in overcoming challenges was also emphasized.
At the meeting, references were also made to the work on improving national legislation through the provisions of the Rome Statute, which regulates the procedural aspects of interaction with the court.
