During the discussions of the 2025 state budget, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan referred to Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations in his speech, noting that the main priority of Armenia's foreign policy is the security of the country and the creation of a harmonious environment in the region.
Mirzoyan emphasized that revitalizing economic relations and implementing the "Crossroads of Peace" project, which implies unblocking and reconstructing transit roads and infrastructure, are essential in the foreign policy framework.
"The restarting of the channels between Armenia and Azerbaijan, first of all, the railways, is an important step," he noted, adding that the negotiations in this direction are proceeding intensively. Mirzoyan expressed hope that there will be progress in removing obstacles between the two countries.
"Speaking of canals, we cannot but talk about the closed border between Armenia and Turkey, the opening of that border, and the reactivation of our existing infrastructures.
Referring to Armenian-Turkish relations, he noted that the issue of opening the border between Armenia and Turkey and restarting infrastructure is of great importance.
"Joint works are being carried out on the Kars-Gyumri railway, and it is a tangible progress," he added.
Mirzoyan also noted that this year, the first international legal document regulating the joint activity of border demarcation commissions was signed in Armenia and Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence that the border delimitation process will continue, providing the opportunity for peaceful activities on both sides.
He also emphasized that the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is close to the final stage, and the dialogue is conducted in a "constructive atmosphere". "I would like to express cautious optimism that we are very close to having a final agreed text of the peace treaty," Mirzoyan said.
