"Armenia and Azerbaijan are on the verge of reaching an agreement." Simonyan

RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan gave a speech at the general discussions of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In the speech of the President of the National Assembly, it is expressly stated:

"It is a great honor for me to address the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and discuss the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in shaping a more peaceful and sustainable future.

For Armenia, a country facing complex geopolitical challenges, applying science and technology is essential for economic growth, national security, vitality, and sustainable development.

Since the application of science, technology, and innovation can also be detrimental to people and challenge our goals, we choose to use it to achieve maximum social, economic, and environmental growth while eliminating disadvantages and problems.

One of Armenia's key priorities is the development of renewable energy. With 270 sunny days a year, our country can make solar energy a central part of its energy strategy. We intend to triple solar energy production by 2030, providing at least 15 percent of the country's energy balance from renewable sources. The transition to clean energy reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to sustainable development.

Science and technology play an essential role in the more efficient management of Armenia's resources and reducing risks related to climate change. Advances in these areas offer solutions to the problems we face, from increasing agricultural productivity to improving the response to natural disasters. By applying these technologies intelligently, we protect the environment and ensure a better future for the next generation.

Dear colleagues,

It is essential to implement reliable technological solutions. Like many other countries, Armenia is focused on reducing carbon dioxide emissions, conserving resources, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility. It is a collective effort, and we must all contribute to ensuring the intelligent use of technological advances to protect our planet.

Science and technology are also powerful tools for peacebuilding. Scientific innovations can help us meet human needs, from reducing conflicts over natural resources to protecting human rights. Armenia strives to use technologies to achieve that goal.

Regarding establishing peace, Armenia and Azerbaijan are on the verge of reaching an agreement. When the peace process started in earnest months ago, Azerbaijan wanted our agreement on five internationally recognized points. I am happy to inform you that we agreed on 16 points today.

Ladies and gentlemen, perfect should no longer be the enemy of good.

The time has come to establish peace. The time for peace is now.

We invite Azerbaijan to show political will, seize the moment, and join us in making the possible a reality.

Armenia is ready to sign a peace treaty even today.

Thank you."
