Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made a speech during the global campaign, organized on September 12 ahead of the Future Summit. It was organized within the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which was held online. It was initiated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
More than four dozen heads of state and governments joined the campaign. In his speech, the Prime Minister said:
"I am happy for the opportunity to make a speech at this high-level event and present Armenia's expectations from the Future Summit.
As the world faces grave challenges and multiple crises, the Future Summit provides an important opportunity to promote collective efforts to ensure that the multilateral system delivers peace, justice, prosperity, and respect for human rights.
The current pace of international developments shows that we are still moving in the opposite direction. The UN still needs the necessary tools and mechanisms for prevention and accountability against violations of international law, especially gross human rights violations and crimes.
Reformed multilateralism, underpinned by the UN Charter and international law, is the answer to global security and development challenges. It will benefit present and future generations and ensure that all voices are heard and no one is left behind.
From this perspective, the Pact for the Future is an important document that breathes new life into the multilateralism that the United Nations should be at the core of. Armenia has been actively involved in the negotiations of the Pact for the Future to develop progressive and meaningful actions that will pave the way for a better, safer, more peaceful, and inclusive world.
We look forward to discussions at the Future Summit, which will lay the groundwork for reforming global governance and international peace architecture, ensuring environmental justice, bridging the technology divide, and enabling the United Nations to fulfill its mandate.
I wish everyone a successful Future Summit and look forward to participating in this key initiative."
