Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by Margaritis Schinas, the Vice President of the European Commission and commissioner for the Promotion of European Lifestyle.
The Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Schinas's visit to Armenia and noted that it would contribute to the discussion of the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda and the further development of cooperation. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that this is an essential moment for the relations between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia."I am glad that there are noticeable changes in our relations. The negotiations on the liberalization of the visa regime are starting, and a decision was made to support the Republic of Armenia with the European Peace Fund, which we highly appreciate," said the Prime Minister.
According to Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia is expanding its agenda with the European Union. The Prime Minister added that, especially after his speech in the European Parliament last year, discussions are underway in our country regarding the possibility of the Republic of Armenia becoming a member of the European Union."This is not a simple issue, but it has become part of the Armenian political agenda, so it is necessary to approach this topic in detail and comprehensively. Here, it will be essential to listen to the observations and advice of our EU partners," the Head of Government said.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of the European Civilian Mission's activities in Armenia to ensure the region's peace and stability. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of close cooperation with the EU in promoting institutional reforms in our country more effectively.
Margaritis Schinas stressed the European Union's interest in developing relations with Armenia and contributing to the promotion of reforms in Armenia. At the same time, the Vice President of the European Commission expressed hope for practical cooperation with the Government of Armenia on visa liberalization dialogue.
The interlocutors also discussed issues related to implementing the agreements reached at the high-level meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of the European Commission, and the US Secretary of State in Brussels on April 5 of this year. Thoughts were exchanged on other issues of regional significance.
