RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan sent a congratulatory message on the 34th anniversary of Armenia's adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
"Dear" compatriots, on August 23, 1990, the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR adopted the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, which marked the beginning of establishing independent statehood.
On this day 34 years ago, our people's longing and aspiration to have independent statehood were officially confirmed, which was the basis for declaring RA's independence a year later. The citizens of Soviet Armenia made a historic decision, putting independence above all else and declaring it the only way for the country's further development.
As tricky as achieving Armenia's independence was, maintaining it is twice as difficult, especially given unpredictable processes and geopolitical realignments worldwide. Even today, the Republic of Armenia struggles daily to preserve its independence.
Dear compatriots, I congratulate you on the 34th anniversary of adopting the Declaration of Independence of Armenia. I want to assure you that the authorities of Armenia will spare no effort to ensure our country's stable development and to strengthen and build the free, independent Republic of Armenia on the difficult path," said the NA Speaker's message.
