On July 29, within the framework of his working visit to Cyprus, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with the House of Representatives of Cyprus Speaker Anita Dimitriou. On the Cypriot side, Vardges Mahtesyan, representing the Armenian community in the Cypriot Parliament, was also present at the meeting.
The interlocutors noted with satisfaction the high level of political dialogue between Armenia and Cyprus, based on the friendly ties of the two peoples and mutual willingness to deepen cooperation in all directions. It was emphasized that opening resident embassies in the two capitals in the coming months and periodic inter-parliamentary contacts will give additional impetus to the bilateral agenda.
Issues related to cooperation on multilateral platforms were also discussed.
Reference was made to the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia, the recorded achievements, and the support of the EU member states along the way. Foreign Minister Mirzoyan referred to the prospects of further deepening the ambitious partnership between RA and the EU and the steps taken in that direction. "Citizens of the Republic of Armenia have European aspirations, and together with the EU, we are working to deepen our cooperation and achieve tangible results through the existing tools." In the context of efforts aimed at regional stability, the EU monitoring mission in Armenia was also addressed.
Ararat Mirzoyan also presented the latest developments in normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the vision of the Armenian side in the direction of establishing security and stability in the South Caucasus. Both sides emphasized the need to settle the existing problems within the framework of international law.
