The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, thanked Alen Simonyan and welcomed Armenia's desire to sever relations with the EU.
"Dear Mr. Simonyan, thank you for your congratulatory letter of July 16, 2024, on my election as President of the European Parliament. It is my authority and responsibility to continue leading this European structure.
The European Parliament accepts and welcomes Armenia's resolute emphasis on its desire to expand and prioritize relations with the European Union. The agreed-upon new EU-Armenia partnership agenda and the start of the visa liberalization dialogue with Armenia are clear proof of our expanded relations.
I hope that the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia will have the opportunity to resume cooperation with the delegation of the European Parliament on relations with the countries of the South Caucasus after the latter's upcoming constituent assembly when the newly elected deputies will assume their positions. I am confident that this will provide a key platform for the further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation," wrote the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.
