"Recently, the Turkish side has been talking about direct meetings, either on the territory of Armenia or Turkey. We see that the meeting will take place at the beginning of Armenia, in the afternoon, in Turkey. And here, the Armenian side again gives in or steps towards the Turkish proposal". Turkologist Nelly Minasyan said in a conversation with Radar Armenia that the 5th meeting of special representatives is to be held tomorrow at the Armenia-Turkey border.
Minasyan has low expectations for tomorrow's station meeting. According to him, it will likely be about implementing two agreements (opening the border for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports). "It is again a process of imitation, which was noticeable in Turkey's behavior in recent years, and rather, it can be said that the continuation of this policy should be waited for, which by and large does not imply the regulation of relations. Even if substantive agreements are reached, for example, to open the border for citizens of third countries, then in essence, the Armenian-Turkish relations are not settled here, but rather a small step".
The Turkologist sees more imitation on Turkey's part than a move aimed at normalizing relations. "This step hardly contributes to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations. At the most, we can wait for a substantial step related to the agreements reached. But even with this reservation, I will approach. Theoretically, improving Armenian-Turkish relations will affect Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, but we see the opposite process when Turkey conditions Armenian-Turkish relations with Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. So that on this platform, we should not have actual expectations from a political point of view."
